Types of Water-Conditioning Systems

Contaminated water is a universal issue. This is water that contains chemicals, sediments, and other impurities that affect its taste and smell. To make this water safe and easy to use, there are several steps you will need to take. Water softening and conditioning are the most common forms of water treatments in residential and business establishments. Most people use the terms “water softening” and “water conditioning” interchangeably since they assume they refer to one treatment process.

A water conditioner for residents in Salt Lake City and those beyond changes different elements in your water to improve its quality. A water softener, on the other hand, reduces the hardness of your water. In fact, water softeners are considered a type of water-conditioning system. The following are the commonly used water-conditioning systems:

Carbon Filtration Systems

Residential water filtrationThese systems use granulated activated carbon to trap certain minerals in your water which will be attracted to carbon. These in most cases are organic compounds. The primary application of carbon filtration systems is the removal of unpleasant taste and odor like sulfur from well water and chlorine from your municipal water. Carbon filtration systems will not soften your water but instead only make it suitable for your cooking or drinking. They are commonly used in water filter pitchers and refrigerator water dispensers.

Space Age or Easy-Type Systems

These are magnetic or electromagnetic water conditioners. They comprise magnets that are wrapped around your water pipes to generate a molecular agitation of the water particles. This agitation results in the blending of carbonate salts responsible for limescale accumulation into small particles in the water. This reduces the magnesium and calcium ion concentration in your water and reduces water hardness. Space age systems are, however, not very efficient. This is because the magnetic fields they create will last for only 48 hours and are confined to the area around them. Thus, you will not be able to treat a lot of water.

Catalytic Media Conditioners

These are also called salt-free water softeners. They use a process known as template assisted crystallization (TAC) to treat water through a catalytic media rather than ion exchange like most water softeners. The minerals in your water will be changed into a hard crystal that will not adhere to your pipe’s surfaces. This way, they condition your water rather than soften it since they do not get rid of the ions that cause hardness or change them into soluble ions.

Ultraviolet Systems

These are designed to get rid of the bacteria dissolved in your water. Ultraviolet systems will use UV light to kill bacteria if your water is tested and found positive for any living organisms. The systems will also filter out microorganisms before the water reaches your faucets.

Water is necessary for a range of commercial and residential tasks. Without a safe and clean water supply, numerous operations will grind to a halt in your premises. Moreover, you are at an elevated risk of contracting different diseases, and the minerals and chemicals will cause havoc on several appliances. These water-conditioning options sourced from a reliable supplier are your best bet for a clean and safe water supply.
